RYPEN Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment

25 September, 2025

Year 11 student Mina and Year 9 student Layla both were both sponsored by West Torrens Rotary to attend the Rotary youth Program of Enrichment camp. The camp was held at Nunyara Conference Centre and aims to develop young people’s public speaking, team work, self-care, problem solving, communication and goal setting skills. The program aims to help young people become active and valuable members of society. Mina and Layla both thoroughly enjoyed their time on the camp, taking away lots of new learnings and friendships.

Layla’s Reflections

It was such a valuable experience where I not only developed my leadership skills but also created what I hope will be lifelong friendships. I had to step out of my comfort zone and learn how to make new friends.

One of the most special activities was the pigeonhole notes, we wrote little messages to each other, and I spent a lot of time making sure everyone got one. Just something small like a nice memory, I made with them or a silly little drawing. The notes I received meant so much to me that I’ve hung them up on my wall at home, as a reminder of all the wonderful people I met. We also did a lot of teamwork activities, and one of my favorites was building a contraption for an egg drop challenge, our egg survived being dropped off the balcony!

It’s the little things and the connections I made that I will truly treasure forever. The camp pushed me outside of my comfort zone, but in the best way possible. I’m so grateful to Rotary for this opportunity and for supporting me in having such an unforgettable experience.
