It is with great pleasure that I write to you as Principal of Underdale High School.
Underdale High School is a caring, inclusive community that provides opportunities for innovative, challenging, and creative learning whilst valuing success and wellbeing for all. Our core values encompass Resilience, Optimism, Courage and Knowledge.
Underdale High School caters for students in Years 7-12 (Year 7 begins in 2022) providing a world-class education for local and overseas students. In 2022 we will have an enrolment of over 700 students. Our students work comprehensively with the Australian Curriculum (AC) in Years 7 – 10, complete the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) in years 10-12 and access Vocational Education (VET) opportunities in Year 10 – 12.
We have specialist programs with selective entry for students in our Football (Soccer) Academy and have an industry standard, Automotive Trade Training Centre. Our school has a rich cultural diversity, with 77 different cultural backgrounds represented. Our support for students with English as an additional language is comprehensive as is our support for International Students. We have high expectations and are proud of the achievements of our students.
Our focus is on high impact teaching and learning strategies and wellbeing for all our students. Our Site Improvement Plan targets increasing student progress and achievement in Reading, Mathematics and SACE (South Australian Certificate of Education) grades, particularly in the A and B grade bands.
We are proud of our PAT-R and PAT-M results which are consistently above state averages. Equally our SACE completion rate is consistently in the high 90% range. High achievement in Year 12 increases every year. We also provide pathways which result in excellent outcomes for students wishing to pursue Vocational Pathways, including school based apprenticeships. Students have many opportunities for to be involved in co-curricular activities including sports teams, debating clubs, history competitions and science and technology activities. Student Leadership opportunities are also available from years 7-12.
Preparing to welcome Year 7 and Year 8 cohort of students into our family at Underdale High School has been the focus in 2021. We have appointed leaders and teachers who have knowledge and experience in a Year 7 setting (either in a Primary School or R-12 School setting). We work with our local primary schools to prepare our school for Year 7’s, and their Year 7’s for our school. This includes exploring suitable play spaces and planning our Middle School Curriculum package. We have appointed 4 experienced Year 7 Primary teachers who will start in 2022. We are very well prepared for the arrival of the Year 7’s in 2022. This experience will have a positive impact on the other year levels in our Middle School cohort.
Students and staff have revelled in our multi-million dollar refurbishment of most of our learning spaces throughout the school. These are now abundant with natural light, spacious and equipped with modern technology. We have a brand new Creative Arts Centre, redeveloped Gymnasium, new Human Physical Performance Centre, refurbished Automotive centre, new Metalwork shop, and a refurbished Furniture Construction building. It is an exciting time! Please visit and like our Facebook page to keep up to date with current developments and photos.
