Our Open Night this year was an outstanding success and the best attended event we have hosted to date. With more than 200 visitors joining us, the excitement was evident from the very beginning, and we even needed to bring in extra chairs for the Principal’s Address in our Performing Arts Theatre. It was wonderful to see such strong representation from our local primary schools, alongside families who travelled from further afield to experience what Underdale has to offer.
The evening began with a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere, featuring a sausage sizzle, a poetry reading, presentations of our Year 8 Business Innovation students, and a lively Greek dance performance that quickly drew in visitors to join the celebration. From that moment on, the school was buzzing with energy, curiosity, and connection.
We were incredibly proud of our student leadership team, who acted as guides for large groups of families throughout the night. Their confidence, warmth, and professionalism ensured that every visitor felt welcomed and informed. Our student prefects further showcased their leadership by running engaging activities and presentations within their areas of specialisation, highlighting both their expertise and their passion for learning.
Our music students added to the atmosphere with outstanding performances, including singing, band pieces, and piano playing, while also inviting younger visitors to participate and experience the joy of music firsthand. Meanwhile, our Food and Hospitality students kept everyone energised with a delicious selection of homemade biscuits, and our Café Culture students impressed by preparing over 100 coffees and 60 hot chocolates across the evening.
Behind the scenes, our Media students captured the event beautifully, ensuring that every special moment was documented. Across the school, a wide range of hands-on experiences captured the imagination of our young visitors: science experiments, 3D printing, robot battles, automotive workshops, beep tests, paleontology activities, origami making, creative writing challenges, as well as mathematics and visual arts displays all contributed to an engaging and inspiring experience.
Open Night truly reflected the spirit of Underdale, innovative, inclusive, and proudly student-led. It was a celebration of our community and a powerful showcase of the opportunities available to our students as we continue creating bright futures.
